Our society functions as an independent charitable body, run by an independant committee and not subject to the control of local civic bodies, making this archive fully representative of the people of Barry and surrounding area that make it possible. In addition we have no paid staff. From chairman to latest member, we are all volunteers. Thus all funds raised go directly back into saving the heritage of our past. Axis News [7 Images] Axis Historical Society - Barry Archive has been of help to Freshwater PR And Marketing, Barry Waterfront Consortium, who are working hade to promote the final phase of Barry Docks Development. Our assistance was given free. Even so, in a welcome gesture, we have been informed by Freshwater PR that we are to recieve a donation of £50 from them on behalf of the Barry Waterfront Consortium. In return our society would like to say a big public thank you all concerned for their kind gesture. The cheque has since arrived. The money will be used to upgrade the Axis Historical Society - Barry Archive web site. See images of the way in which our society provided help in this album. View Album

Barry & Barry Island Photographic Mysteries. [21 Images] In all cases, orgnisations like ours and individuals from our area and those further Afield will acquire images of Barry and Barry Island that carry little or no information. In Remembrance [19 Images] This album is dedicated to all from Barry, or living in Barry at time of their loss, during in any period of conflict. It does not have to be WW I or WW II. It can be a conflict much further in our past. Or one in our present. At present each man represents those who served on land, sea and air and Remember also Barry on the home front did have civillian war dead. Not as many as the big towns and cities one would admit. Nevertheless each a tragic loss to the family that war effects. If you have a relative from Barry, lost in the tragic circumstance of war. If you would like them remembered in this section of our archive. Lost Barry Treasures - Axis Archive Help Centre [2 Images] This album is reserved for anyone wishing to send us an image of a lost treasure to Barry. A lost treasure to us is any item, photograph, document or artefact that may have made its way out of Barry due to movement of the holder. They may now be living elsewhere in the UK. They may have moved abroad. The person might not be from Barry, but may still hold vital historical evidence that relates to our town. This album will also provide space for those who wish to send us images of items that they have not yet clearly indentified as being from Barry. In the case of the latter a good quality photograph is all we need to see if we can help to identify the item you hold. This album can also be used by persons who hold items they know are related to Barry, but do not wish to donate away from their ownership at this time. Statue Of David Davies Prominant Figure In Promotion And Building Of A Docks At Barry. [3 Images] Amazingly, in over 100 years. Still the only statue erected to anyone of importance associated with Barry. View Album

The Men Who Brought A Docks To Barry. [11 Images] Perhaps for the first time on the internet, Barry's school chidren and interested parties will be able to look upon the faces of all but one of the great men that brought a Dock to Barry. Without them, the maritime history of our area may have been very different than it went on to be. The first sod of Barry no. 1 Dock was cut near Castleland Point in November 1884. The opening of that same dock took place in 1889. All are named on the Barry Dock Medal struck to commemorate the opening. These where the first directors of the Barry Dock And Railways Company. Only one of their number is missing from this Album at present. The missing director is F.W. Perks.
